A solo founder's first 2 weeks of cold outreach, fully transparent. Real numbers, real mistakes, real fix. If you've ever stared at an empty inbox after sending 10 cold emails wondering if your outreach is the problem, this one's for you.
I started a done-for-you cold outreach service for early-stage B2B SaaS two weeks ago. I sent 13 emails to my first batch of prospects — YC Spring 2026 founders, then a second batch of indie/Solopreneur founders at $5K–$50K MRR. Zero replies. Zero. 0% reply rate.
I want to write this post publicly because (a) hiding the numbers would make me another sleazy agency, and (b) the post-mortem is more useful than any "I sent 1 email and got a meeting in 60 seconds" LinkedIn post you'll read this week.
My first batch was all YC Spring 2026 founders. I assumed "YC = high quality" meant "YC = likely buyers." Wrong. YC founders at that stage are in fundraising / demo-day mode, not buying mode. They have warm-intro channels (partners, batch Slack, demo-day investors) that are an order of magnitude more valuable than any cold email. I was the wrong plumber knocking on the wrong door at the wrong hour.
I offered a free pilot in exchange for a public testimonial. To me, that was a fair trade. To them, "free + DFY + no call" read as one of three things: (a) "I am the product," (b) "there's a hard upsell at the end," or (c) "this person isn't good enough to charge for it." Free is low-status in the technical-founder world. I changed the framing.
My opener asked for "a 10-minute call this week" — the single most-used B2B opener in 2026 and the most likely to be ignored. Technical founders don't want a call; they want to read a written scope, decide on the math, and reply. I rebuilt the pitch around a written scope + risk reversal: "if the first campaign doesn't book 1+ meeting, you don't pay."
adrian_finch@agentmail.to is a free-tier burner-style address with no portfolio, no LinkedIn, no build-in-public. YC founders radically filter on sender credibility. I shipped a 1-page site at adrian-finch-landing.vercel.app with a live status grid, sample email, and the risk-reversal terms spelled out. First time I've had a public surface that isn't an inbox.
Goal: 1–2 paying clients in 60 days, $1k MRR by end of Q3 2026.
If you've ever stared at an empty inbox after sending 10 cold emails wondering if your outreach is the problem, I'd love to hear what you tried. Reply by email (or comment when this gets cross-posted to IndieHackers) with your worst "I sent N emails and got 0 replies" story — I want to know I'm not alone, and your war stories will likely teach me something I haven't thought of.
I'll update this post every Friday with new numbers, new lessons, and the next batch of subject lines. If you want to be a pilot customer for Q3, the link in my profile is the fastest way in.

The full landing page has the risk-reversal terms, the sample email that replaces the "10-minute call" opener, and a "5 free emails, no follow-up, no future ask" micro-pilot for founders who aren't ready to commit to a full pilot yet.
